Rainbow Hot Springs

Rainbow Hot Springs is a stunning natural hot spring nestled in the Weminuche Wilderness Area, which lies within the San Juan National Forest in Colorado, just north of Pagosa Springs. The hot spring is a primitive and remote location that can only be reached via a 4.5-mile hike through breathtaking forests of pine and aspen groves, following the West Fork Trail. The hot springs themselves consist of two rock-walled primitive pools, which change in size with the spring runoff from the West Fork San Juan River and volunteer building. Before embarking on the hike, it is advised to check road conditions, bring enough water and supplies. The hot springs are free, clothing-optional, and dog-friendly. Visitors are permitted to camp around the hot springs, and the best time to visit is during the summer through mid-fall.
