Piedra River Hot Springs


Piedra River Hot Springs, also known as Sheep Creek Hot Springs, is a free and primitive hot springs destination located in the San Juan National Forest, south of Pagosa Springs, CO. To reach the hot springs, visitors must hike a short 1.5 miles through the forest. The pools are naturally fed by the Piedra River and vary in size and temperature. Most are around 100°F, while some report reaching 107°F. The hot springs are best visited in the summer and early fall when more of the pools are accessible and warmer due to the Piedra River calming down. Visitors should opportunities to see wildlife along the way, including deer, elk, and river otter colonies. Clothing is optional at this secluded and natural hot springs location.
