Uptop
Uptop, a deserted town located on Old La Veta Pass, was established in 1877 after the “Railroad Above the Clouds” was built, attracting miners and tourists to the area. Although the railroad stopped operating by 1900, Uptop continued to flourish, benefiting from the coal and lumber industries. It was once a thriving town with a busy tavern and ski resort. Later on, it was purchased, renovated and designated as a Colorado State Historic District. Many original buildings have been preserved.
