Saint Elmo

Saint Elmo, Colorado, a former gold and silver mining town that was renamed and incorporated in the late 1800s, is now considered one of the best preserved ghost towns in the American West. It has 43 remaining buildings, including a saloon, courthouse/jail, mercantile, and private homes. At its peak, the town had a population of about 2,000, with many saloons and dance halls. However, after the train service to Chalk Creek Canyon was closed in 1926, the town began to decline and was pretty much deserted by 1958.
