Pagosa Junction


Pagosa Junction, located near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, was a railroad town that existed between 1881 and the early 1980s. The Denver and Rio Grande railroads provided service to Pagosa Springs through Pagosa Junction during the peak of railroad transportation in the American West. The population of the town was small, with 200 residents when the post office opened in 1899, and peaked at 447 in the 1930, before declining when the railroad connection to Pagosa Springs closed in the 1930s. The town continued to decline thereafter, with the post office closing in 1954 and the school closing in 1962 due to low enrollment.
