Homestead Meadows, CO is a unique ghost town that was established as a result of the Homestead Act of 1862. Unlike other ghost towns, it was not founded for mining but rather for farming and lumber. The area was settled by both men and women who staked claims and built ranches. The first resident settled in 1889 and men often worked in nearby Lyons while women tended to the land. The town never had a post office or school and was just a collection of ranches. The last of the residents left in 1952, leaving behind several old buildings as remnants of their once-thriving community.
