Crystal

Crystal, CO is a small, yet very popular ghost town located in Gunnison County, accessible only by a rough dirt road. The town was founded in 1880 and was known as Crystal City, and was home to several mines that produced silver, zinc, and lead. At its peak, the town had a healthy population of a few hundred and featured a range of amenities, including hotels, saloons, and even a club for men. However, the town’s remote location made it difficult to access, and ultimately contributed to its decline. By 1917, all of the mines had closed and the town’s population had dwindled to just a few residents. Today, some of the buildings remain as summertime residences and of course the iconic Crystal Mill is what brings most people to this ghost town.
