Querida

Querida, CO, a former mining camp and company town, is situated south of Mount Tyndall. The town’s name, which means “beloved” in Spanish, was founded to cater to the neighboring mines, the most prominent of which was Bassick Mine. Bassick City, the town’s other name, named after its founder E.C. Bassick, had over 500 inhabitants in the 1880s, but by 1906, it had been deserted. Mining operations were restarted from 1917 to 1920, and a post office was established under the name Bassick. The town has a few historic structures remaining, including the Bassick mill’s ruins, an abandoned mine shaft, and some old residences.
