Keota

Keota was founded in 1880 by sisters Mary and Eva Beardsley in Weld County, Colorado. The town grew when the Colorado-Wyoming spur of the Burlington Railroad was built, which brought water to the area and allowed for the town’s development. However, in the mid-20th century, the railroad stopped running through Keota, causing the town to fade and its residents to move away. Today, Keota is uninhabited, with only a few modern homes nearby, and is mostly used by oil exploration companies and as a storage site for heavy equipment. Some buildings from the town’s past still remain, including a water tower, general store, church, barns, and sheds.
