Bishop Castle
Bishops Castle is a uniquely fascinating attraction in Colorado. This is unlike any other castle you have seen. With an exterior entirely made of stones from the forest, to the wrought iron walkways traversing the multiple levels and of course the fire breathing dragon make this a destination for visitors from all over.
Jim Bishop constructed this awe-inspiring structure and as he described it “Built by One Man with the Help of God” is in fact built by one man with a lot of determination and perseverance.
It started back he was 15 years old and with the help of his parents, purchased 2.5 acres of land west of Pueblo. Unlike what many speculate building a castle was not Jim’s dream as a child. In fact at age 25 his goal was to build a modest cabin for him and his wife. As construction was progressing an idea kept brewing and growing in his mind until eventually he proclaimed he was going to build a castle. And that is exactly what he did. Layer after layer of stone the once modest cabin continued to grow. As more layers of stone were laid, towers erected and dragon heads installed so did the increase in visitors. Today it remains one of the most visited attractions in southern Colorado and offers and unforgettable one-of- a-kind experience.
